It was a flat roofed house. The lease was explicit, the landlord was responsible to clear the snow from the roof. It is quite disturbing to wake in the morning with fellows banging around on the roof of your bedroom. It is also quite awakening to have the kerosene hot water heater run out of fuel when showering!
I believe attending a writers conference is an excellent opportunity and quite beneficial. Writers conferences are the best way to meet agents and editors who are clearly looking for manuscripts, networking, getting editorial advice, and pitching to agents and editors, perhaps developing a relationship, albeit brief, it’s an opportunity. I’m looking forward to attending the Atlanta Writers Club Conference November 01 and 02, 2024.
As previously mentioned, in April I attended my first writers conference, the Tennessee Writers Workshop, in Nashville. A great experience. The conference was small, I felt comfortable and learned a lot. I revised Echoes of Revolution significantly since that conference and believe it is a much better manuscript, although I can tell you the revision process is quite trying, frustrating, and much work. I spent a lot of time looking, reading, researching, and can only hope the effort is rewarded.
It is so much easier to simply write. I’m writing a short story for the National Historical Society of North America contest. Since the NHSNA national conference is June 2025 in Las Vegas, the ground rules require the story to be about pre-1975 Las Vegas and less than 4,000 words. I wrote the story and gave a look at the word count––9,242. This is an editing process! Perhaps a new manuscript and–––a new try at a short story?
